Bobcat Photo Gallery & Information

|
Bobcats have a short, "bobbed" tails, round faces and pointed ears. They are two to three times bigger than housecats. |
 |
Bobcats are capable of hunting and
killing prey that range from the size of
a mouse to that of a deer. Rabbits, tree
squirrels, ground squirrels, woodrats,
porcupines, pocket gophers, and
ground hogs comprise most of their
diet. Bobcats are opportunistic predators,
feeding on poultry, sheep, goats, house
cats, small dogs, exotic birds and game
animals, and, rarely, calves. |
 |
Bobcats are secretive, shy, solitary, and
seldom seen in the wild. They are
active during the day but prefer twilight,
dawn, or night hours. |
 |
The bobcat
is protected in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana,
Ohio, and most of Kentucky.
It is managed as a furbearer or
game animal in the plains states.
Western
states generally exempt depredating
bobcats from protected status.
Bobcats can usually be killed by landowners
or their agent. |
